Academic White Paper Executive Brief | Trevor Mishler | August 2026
AI should not own the customer relationship. Its strongest role in Account Management is to reduce administrative load, improve account intelligence, detect patterns, prepare work, and help people exercise better judgment.
Strategic accounts are context-heavy and relationship-specific. Errors can damage trust, while customer outcomes are jointly shaped by product, service, pricing, market conditions, and customer strategy. That makes Account Management an operating-model problem, not simply a software rollout.
The paper proposes bounded decision support, consequence-based governance, a 90-day pilot design, and a balanced scorecard spanning capacity, quality, customer outcomes, commercial results, behavior, and risk.
Bottom line: the central management challenge is allocation, deciding what the machine may prepare, what the person must decide, and how the organization will learn from the difference.
